Department of Education, Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Country

National Pilot: 

The Department of Education, Linguistic Policy and Culture of the Basque Government (Consejería de Educación, Política Lingüística y Cultura  Euskadi) is the public authority in charge of education, both non-university and university, as well as research. The Department combines the regulation of public and private education, directs the normalization in the use of Euskera language and is responsible for the regulation and management of the area of ​​sports, youth, protection of historical and artistic heritage, museums, libraries and archives.

The Area of Universities has the mandate to promote and develop university plans and actions to be developed on Higher Education; to improve teaching quality and university infrastructure, to allocate funding for public universities and establishing contracts with Universities, public or private, of the Basque University System, as well as the drafting of the regulations necessary for this purpose. It is also within its competence establishing scholarships mechanisms and grants so that all people have access to higher education under equal conditions.

The main roles of the University department on this project are:

  • to oversee the development and implementation of the pilot program;
  • create the necessary administrative procedures, so the pilot project can be implemented ;
  • and finally to disseminate and make use of the project results
