Prof. Hermann Joseph Abs holds the chair for Educational Research and schooling and officiates as Associate Dean for Research of the Faculty of Educational Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. He is the German National Research Coordinator for the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS 2016) and an invited expert to the European Commission EACEA Unit on Education and Youth Policy Analysis. Abs developed and planned the evaluation design for NEWTT. As  head of the evaluation team for the project,  he advises and supervises the work of his team of researchers.
